BLACK LAB SOFTWARE

The Black Lab system comes standard with the following software:

Ø Pocket PC Black Lab program

Ø Desktop Black Lab program

Ø Math Tablet program for graphical display and analysis of data on the Pocket PC

Ø Built in data file conversion utility for importing data into Excel or other packages

Ø Manage data utility included with the Pocket PC Black Lab software for managing Black Lab data files.

The software is furnished on one CD with one installation procedure. For details on the software, refer to the Black Lab manual in Technical Information.

The Black Lab supports four acquisition modes:

Ø Standard mode - test start and stop initiated by user

Ø Trigger mode - test starts when a trigger condition is met

Ø Capture mode - data is displayed on computer screen continuously and saved when a "capture" screen control is selected

Ø View mode - data is updating on the screen and in real time

Pocket PC Black Lab Software

The Black Lab Pocket PC program supports many of the data acquisition functions found in other notebook or desktop based systems.

The Main screen for the Pocket PC program is shown at the right. Its functions are itemized below:

Ø A project name (for organizing tests)

Ø An acquisition mode (e.g. trigger, capture)

Ø A configuration (sample rates, channels, trigger conditions, etc.)

Ø Test related notes and file name

Ø Setup testing conditions to save with the test

Ø Start data acquisition and save test data

Ø View and manage test files

Desktop Black Lab Software

When using the Black Lab with a notebook or desktop PC, the "Black Lab Desktop Program" is the software package that is used. It provides the same functionality as the Pocket PC program. The screens are essentially the same as the Pocket PC screens so the user only has to learn one program.

The desktop program also includes a custom graphical data viewer shown in this picture. This program provides:

Ø Zoom

Ø Cross Plot

Ø Display test information

Ø Description of each channel and its configuration

Ø Cursor readout of all channels

Ø Data file conversion

Ø Printing

Both the Pocket PC and desktop software programs provides:

Ø Full test configuration

Ø Recording data

Ø Real time data display during test

Ø Displaying the data graphically

Math Tablet graphical display software for the Pocket PC

After a test is taken, display your data graphically using the Math Tablet software. Math Tablet supports both Portrait, Landscape modes and full screen viewing of your results.

The screen display at the right shows a Black Lab data file displayed in Math Tablet on a Pocket PC. Math Tablet supports many data processing functions to allow you to further analyze your data soon after taking your test.

Third party software

Most third party software programs that provide sophisticated analysis and display capabilities allow data to be imported in an ASCII text file format known as CSV or Comma Separated Values. The Black Lab software program creates CSV files so they can be loaded easily in other software programs.
